In a tea ceremony, a guest wears a sensu, a folding fan, as an indication of a guest. When a guest greets the host or the hostess, a sensu is placed in front, and then the sensu becomes a sacred barrier( Kekkai). The guest shows the modesty and respect by staying off the barrier. A sensu can be the boundary that ties daily life and the pure and sacred world of Tea. Therefore, please bring your sensu to a tea ceremony.
茶席では客は扇子を身につけることによって客であることを示します。客が亭主に挨拶をする時には扇子を前に置きます。その時扇子は結界となります。客は結界の外に身を置く事により謙遜と敬意を表すことになります。一本の扇子は日常生活と、清らかで神聖な茶の世界を結ぶ入り口になります。茶席には是非扇子をお持ち下さい。
